Guansi Dong Shan County Leader 新竹縣関西鎮東山里長

周里長愛家鄉,窮畢生精力把荒地變成生態保護區,
可持續發展教育基地,接待來自不同國家的青少年學生,
考察溪流生態,蝴蝶,及體驗客家文化。

Mr. Zhou Ting Chun, head of the Guansi County, treated us a Hakka lunch at a western style restaurant with sculptures and mosaics. Very special Hakka dishes such as fried yellow ginger rice, Mui Choi Pork, all with a Guansi flavour.

"I love Dong Shan. The place is beautiful and the natural environment is good for health. There are over 12 elderly over 100 years old here. The county was abandoned and was just a wasteland. We worked together and uncovered a hidden irrigation system, a legacy from long ago. Then we decided to reconstruct the old Dong Shan farmlands. With support from the Government, we converted an abandoned village school to a conservation centre. We work together with university professors who conduct environmental research here and teach courses related to conservation to student groups from Taiwan and overseas. We provide accommodation of a wide range of prices and Hong Kong students are welcome."
