The school was established by the missionaries from Britain at the turn of the nineteenth century. The buildings were English in style but built during the Japanese colonial rule. The oldest one was the Music Hall with two stories designed in different styles because it was built by two contractors. Equally old was the dormitory.
The school is the top private school in Tai Nam, with 5000 students, all boys.
One of the academic buildings was devoted to school history, shells, fossils, butterflies. A very strong humanistic atmosphere with mini museums providing rich resources for students' in-school learning.
台南长荣大学 Chang Yung Christian University in Tai Nam
This is a thriving Christian university. Despite the demographic change and dwindling student population in Taiwan, this university is expanding and student number growing.
The focus on teaching and learning with research taking a secondary place, caters to the needs of contemporary generation. Every student is treasured and well cared for, especially international students. The International Affairs section is actively reaching out to the Chinese Christian communities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Macau and other parts of South East Asia.
The university is located at the countryside of the oldest city of Taiwan - Tai Nam. It is easily accessible because the train station is at the main entrance of the university. From Tai Nam, the train ride is 20 minutes; and just one stop away, 5 minutes, is the Tai Nam High Speed station. From Kaohsiumg airport, it is about 1 hr 15 minutes by trains.

Fees are far less than those in Hong Kong. With around HK$30,000 per year, all expenditures including tuition fees, and living expenses are covered.
The library is well equipped with new furnishing for self access multi media learning and resources.
What impressed me most is the strong integration with the community: social responsibility sharing through conservation and services. The Jane Goodall Roots and Sprouts Education Centre and the River Conservation Centre provides excellent research and servicing opportunities for students and their integration into their local context, and prepares them for future career.
